Zaq's babies
One of the great things about a blog is I don't have to respond to what I see right away. As you know I often think quite different things when the image sits with me awhile. I'd never seen the image with the baby in the sand and it seemed like it really tuned in to baby-mind. The world is big and endless, and there's a sense of complete involvement in a world where you are the center of the universe. I've read that as babies we're at our most egocentric and grow out of it as we get older , becoming more and more aware of others. (Immaturity characterized by self-centerness) It's a beautiful image conveying a quiet self-absorption, and a great texture bradient as well.

hey susan, thanks for the fantastic insight on the desert piece, i originally created it for my brother the christmas after i finished the first illusionism. He saw the first one, which went to my grandparents, and asked for a new one. I did the sketch on the plane without any refrences and it then turned into that painting. I plan on painting three others at some point in the future. The original Baby vs. Baltimore, Baby vs. the Ocean, which i did as an in class drawing during the photo refrence week in Illusionism, and lastly Baby vs. the Sky, which was inspired by a flight i was on last year that had at LEAST 25 babies on board. And they all cried at the same time.
